Leaving dirt from a previous cycle in the bin will help improve the quality of your end product. The amazing microbes contained in that dirt will decompose food waste more efficiently, so add more food waste and then just start the next cycle! Just make sure you empty Rewaso after 3 cycles because any more than that could strain the grinder.
An all-fruit cycle will result in an overly pasty final product. Instead, try to incorporate a mixture of fruit, vegetables, and grains. That will ensure the end product is much less pasty.
Compost is a key part of maintaining a healthy garden environment. However, it's important to carefully balance your inputs of nitrogen-rich "greens" and carbon-rich "browns". Carbon materials usually include dry, woody vegetables (such as coconut shells). Nitrogen materials usually include colourful and slightly moist vegetables, coffee grounds, fresh leaves, or green garden cuttings. To maintain an ideal compost environment always add browns to your food waste.
Suggested "browns":
- Yard trimmings is the natural debris left over when trimming a yard. It typically consists of dried leaves, twigs, and straw.
We recommend adding fresh fruit and vegetable scraps. The end product from oily, cooked foods or processed foods high in salt and sugar is not ideal for growing plants. The healthier the food you put in, the healthier the dirt will be for your plants!
Rewaso should not be run near a humidifier, diffuser made with essential oils, or in the direct line of exit steam from a dishwasher. Doing so can affect performance and the quality of the end product.
You can have a huge impact on how quickly Rewaso turns to nutrient-rich soil. This is why we recommend you cut approved materials in pieces smaller than 10cm and tuck them around the food waste in your trash bucket. Place these at the bottom of your trash, rather than on top of the food waste, and this will prevent them from floating to the top during the cycle.

Rewaso is more intelligent in terms of analysing the waste put into the machine and hence automatically sets the cycle timing depending upon the waste. Compared to Lomi, Rewaso also has a larger capacity bucket so you don’t have to worry about running cycles again and again. Biodegradable products are made of complex biological compounds, and some take longer to break down than others. The conversion process also depends on the amount of moisture present in the materials. So there are chances that after a cycle you still get some waste which is not converted to the soil. You can run another cycle or add more food waste and run another cycle to allow any remaining Rewaso Approved materials to break down even further.
Microbial biomass (fungi and bacteria) is the leading indicator of soil health and is measured in ug microbial biomass per g of soil. The results show that the dirt from Rewaso has the highest microbial biomass. Soil with higher microbial biomass has improved soil structure, stores more water, has more nutrients naturally available to feed soil organisms and plants, leads to increased plant productivity, and stores more C in the soil.
Depending on variables like humidity, the assortment of food scraps added, the color of dirt will change accordingly. Your dirt will look different depending on what waste goes in!
MAINTAINING REWASO
The bucket can handle up to 3L. Larger cycles will give you more dirt, and a greater amount and variety of food will likely give you soil with more nutrients for your plants so for the best end result, fill Rewaso up!
You can run up to 3 cycles without emptying your bucket. Compost from previous cycles will help improve the quality of the next cycle’s soil as the microbes and good bacteria will help with the process, but make sure to empty the bucket after 3 cycles as too much end product quantity can put a strain on the bucket.
Rewaso comes with a Self-Cleaning option. You only need to fill up the bucket with water and press the ‘Clean’ button and watch the machine clean the bucket. Once cleaning is done you only need to empty the bucket in your sink, rinse and let it dry before placing it back in the machine.
If you do not with to use the Self-Cleaning option you can also manually clean using the following steps:
- Pull the bucket out from Rewaso
- Empty any remaining debris
- Rinse the bucket under hot water and give the bucket a good scrub to remove any extra, hardened food waste material, use a brush to remove the waste.
- Allow the bucket to dry
- Replace the bucket into Rewaso
You can also put the bucket in your Dishwasher bottom rack to thoroughly clean it.
It’s important to keep Rewaso clean so that it stays clean, functions better and also looks great! Clean the exterior of Rewaso once or twice a month, depending on how dirty you make it. Also, to keep Rewaso’s performance good, clean the interior bucket which carries the waste routinely.
- Make sure the device is unplugged before you even start cleaning. To clean the exterior, use a damp cloth and wipe it up. If the device is very dirty then use little amount of dishwasher or any other kitchen appliance cleaner in your cleaning process
- Finally use a dry cloth to remove excess moisture.
- Never submerge your Rewaso underwater. There are electrical components and any excess water would cause significant damage and could cause electric shock.
- The inside bucket of Rewaso can be easily removed and washed by hand or placed in the dishwasher, for a more thorough cleaning.
- Ensure the bucket is free from any excess dirt/particles before placing it in the dishwasher. This should be run on a hot cycle.
- As the bucket is made from metal be sure to let it cool down before handling and placing it back inside the unit.
If you've stopped Rewaso during a cycle, don't worry, it's easy to restart!
To restart the cycle, you will first have to wait for the heated bucket to come to room temperature. Once the bucket cools close the lid again and press the ‘start’ button.
Please avoid opening the lid during a cycle as the cycle restarts once turned on (it does not continue from mid-cycle). Once restarted, the full cycle might take a shorter time as the waste is already partially-processed.
Note: During or just after a cycle, the bucket and the content inside will be very hot, do NOT touch it immediately.
You can store your Rewaso in the corner of your kitchen. Also, while operating Rewaso, make sure to place it 12-15 inches away from the wall. Please avoid putting it in overhead cabinets and steam will be produced from the waste’s moisture.
